I tried to get through all the fabulous comments to see if I am duplicating… so I’ll just simplify my reaction:
MOVIE.
You’ve got all the pieces in place. I think it could do better than the Purge franchise. I kid you not.
MOVIE.
Please, give it a try. Tap out a few scenes. See what comes of it. Because this is brilliant, detailed, fun and heart stopping at the same time which is the best in horror/thriller films.
Ooo, ooo! (My inner first grader is showing, sorry!) Imagine if you did go in the direction of a movie, and chose to finance either all or a goodly portion, it would be a beautiful thing on Kickstarter! Oh goodness, I’m going to be giggling all day and getting all sorts of weird looks… but that’s normal for me, the odd glances that is.
Oof! Grim, hilarious, terrifying, plausible — all the right touches are here. As I’ve said of other stories of yours, Andy, I love the gestures to crumbling society and evils taking place outside the frame.
Here, I also love the critique of libertarian utopianism: the 31st Amendment is just the sort of well-intentioned, ill-conceived, destructive thing that people come up with when they think a perfect world imposes no rules or restrictions on freedom. It’s alarming to reflect on how this idea — the free flow of capital is sacrosanct — is already being treated as axiomatic by many in power. Witness, for instance, Jeff Bezos’s announcement of new policy for the Washington Post opinion page, banning any editorials that don’t align with his vision of “personal liberties and free markets” (left abstract and vague so that anyone can import their own ideas about what those terms mean, while what Bezos thinks they mean goes wholly unsaid). Platitudes masking horrific consequences.
Just as you said in your book club chat. It's all here! I've got one coming up about maximum efficiency. I keep hearing about it, so why not? 😄 Horrifying as well as inspiring.
This has all the freedom and joy of a late-night chat with friends that goes really dark. Before you know it, you've bought a website name, and someone has taken things a bit too far. Loved it... great world building from a distance... like peepholes into a place we all recognise and fear but also hope will never happen. For me that's the perfect balance for Future Fiction - its grounded and a flight of fantasy all at the same time. Also ... effortlessly written... just flows, perfect authentic voice throughout.
I’m loathed to recommend this service. We raised a truck load of money for attempts on a very well known head of state. Somehow the vetting process failed esp. on the second attempt.
I’d recommend people take out the supplementary killmisser insurance to protect themselves.
Clipping an ear is not clearly defined in the t@c’s.
Now, through no fault of our own premiums are on the rise.
Can we have the CEO’s home
Address please, this time we’re not going to bother with a complaints procedure tbh
I love the concept and how it's written to make it seem more legit in our current internet space. I think my only critism and it's subjective and just my tastes coming through, it feels more like worldbuidling which isn't bad! Just would love like a narrative of someone maybe discovering this site or being the target of said site or something like that. if that makes sense.
it's as redolent of the sickness of human capacity for banal evil as Disposable. it's as real. It's more possible. It's doable now. someone's probably doing it right now.
Andy. You're a smart cookie. THIS is actually quite dangerous work, I would say.
STOP IT...youre at risk of felony incitement to murder by satire... and only semi joking...
Hopefully my lifelong commitment to pacifism and nonviolence will save me...but...
"Lifelong commitment to pacifism and nonviolence" Well fuck, guess I should start wiping my digital footprint now... Again, ugh.
What will really save us is the incompetence of the haters
well done Andy. hilarious while also saying something important. i like the context switching of the grammar especially for the comments
Thank you 🙏

If I can roll up a big enough ball here on Substack all things are possible.

Oh My God. This is perfect. The bit about you wanting to come off the hit list and them not removing you was so Meta.
Thank you very much 🙏
I did recoil a couple of times. Excellent Sci fi. And several thoughts of Luigi Mangione.

This required 0 imagination to write.
