I used to be a runner — with everything that comes with it. Paresthesias. Neuropathy. Shin splints. Blisters. Most recently a broken foot. Avulsion fracture, would you believe it? Most common with dancers and elderly women with osteoporosis. And people who run in the dark over uneven terrain and twist their ankle into an improbable 90 degree position.
Oof, I heard a pop and started screaming. I thought it was a bad sprain, but it was just my ligament ripping my bone in half. Six months in a boot and PT.
But I’m running agin. Jogging, really. Huffing. Shambling.
I guess some people never learn. The demons that work the pneumatic systems of the body need a way out.
